Method
- Combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large mixing bowl. Whisk to mix.
- Add the milk, eggs, and vanilla to the bowl. Whisk to combine. Then, add the melted butter and whisk until the batter is smooth. The batter should be pourable but thick, slightly thinner than pancake batter.
- Cover the batter and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight. This step improves the texture and flavor. If you are short on time, you can proceed immediately with cooking.
- Preheat your waffle maker according to its instructions. If you have a non-stick waffle maker, you likely won't need to grease it, as the batter contains butter.
- Pour batter into the waffle maker, using a ladle to add just enough to cover the iron without overflowing. Cook until the waffles are golden brown and crisp. Cooking time will vary depending on your waffle maker; typically 3 to 6 minutes.
- Transfer the cooked waffles to plates and serve immediately with your favorite toppings. Alternatively, keep them warm on a wire rack in a preheated oven at 70°C/150°F while you finish cooking the rest.
Notes
For softer insides and better flavor, it is recommended to let the batter rest in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours or overnight. If your waffle maker is not non-stick, you may need to lightly grease it before adding batter.
